Oh dear, I do feel sorry for you, it must be annoying having to be so scrupulous with your water. The worst we get in England is a hosepipe ban. At least its its lovely and sunny over there, here its June, its raining, i dont think we will have too much of a problem this year....

I have another tip for you that helps water outdoor plants. I have a 10 gallon container under the AC condensate line. I collect enough water every day to water all of my outdoor plants. Mosquitos were a problem, but now I drip some diswashing soap in it and stir it up and that has kept the mosquitos from breeding. Austin has been in a terrible drought for two years so this is the least I can do to help not drain more water out of the lakes.

I will be the first to admit it, i use to have a lot of water wasting bad habits. I was the one who ran the water until it got cold, let a leaky faucet go unfixed, and the one who flushed Kleenex down the toilet.

After i found out how much water i was truly wasting and the cost associated with it, i was able to fix some of my bad habits. I think articles like this really help you think about what you do everyday that wastes water.

I think water rationing might be a good idea in a sense. When the U.S. had gas price go up into the $4-$6 region, we had focused a lot of effort towards new energies. Now, with gas prices back down, you don't see that focus anymore. If we rationed water, maybe someone would think of a new way to conserve the most out of the water they use.

You would think that by now there would be a more efficient way of disposing our body's waste ( as far as water conservation goes).

Same here in Central Texas. We have been in a drought for quite some time now. The tips are great for taking personal responsibility but there needs to be more thought and planning about future use, development and conservation of available resources. Our underground water tables always seem to be at a critical stage as well as consistantly lower lake levels.

Its amazing how folks can be so shortsighted.

In my country Kenya, greedy or ignorant people have been logging trees that are catchment areas for our main city, Nairobi.

Now the scientists are warning that if we dont stop the logging, we wont have enough water for the whole city and water rationing will have to be implemented

Wow. I never expected a water problem in San Diego... look at how much water is wasted on Washer/Dryer. Looks like you'll have to go back to clotheslines, eh?
