The Ballpark District refers to the area around PetCo park, the home of the San Diego Padres and includes the East Village. This is a wonderful and exciting area full of shops and high rises. Cortez Hill is named after the El Cortez Hotel and is one of San Diego's nicest and oldest residential neighborhoods. Cortez Hill has amazing views of the ocean and Balboa Park and offers some very nice property for those looking for a nice downtown location.
