The La Jolla Indian Reservation which is very close offers innertube rentals and has a fun little river to tube down.

Palomar Mountain takes about 2 hours to reach from downtown San Diego and a little longer from Los Angeles but much of this time is on mountain roads which have a lower speed limit than a freeway. Many people don't mind that extra driving time to be able to live in such a natural and beautiful place.

Palomar Mountain is located within the county of San Diego, approximately 50 minutes drive to Downtown San Diego.
